Siren Tamer Book One of the Siren Tamer Series Volume 1 Sofia St Angeles McKenna Gardner Fiona Jayde Books
As a general rule, I don't read YA, and frothy romance isn't really my thing, but this title intrigued me by its premise, and so I decided to give it a chance. I have to admit that it sucked me in and everything else was put on hold until I finished it. And, although there's plenty of material to satisfy (or, perhaps frustrate) lovers of palpitating romance novels, "frothy" is not a term I would use for this effort. As a fantasy, Ms. St. Angelas does an excellent job of creating her futuristic world built up from ancient Mayan culture, without letting it overtake the plot. As a YA romance, she strikes a good balance between getting pulses racing (which she does very, very well) and exercising good taste and restraint. That's a tricky combination, but she manages to pull it off with style. She does an excellent job with the window dressing.
More importantly, St. Angelas creates engaging characters with whom the reader easily identifies. We care what happens to them, feel their frustration and pain. The primary plot, whether or not Gideon and Aliya will overcome the obstacles between them and finally understand one another, keeps the reader engaged and the tension high right to the very last page. The secondary plot, their discovery of their siren/tamer relationship and how that will impact their lives, the lives of those around them, and the fate of nations is intimated but left unresolved, obviously the subject of Book 2. Overall, St. Angelas does a very good job of making this novel more about the people and their journeys of self-discovery than about steamy romance. Even so, lovers of that genre won't be disappointed.
I've taken off one star due to a few clarity issues and the odd proofing lapse, as well as her choice of voice for her characters. 21st century pop-culture vernacular feels awkward and out of place here, but it is something that speaks to her audience, so I understand the decision.
BOTTOM LINE: an excellent debut for this first-time author; one that lovers of YA fantasy romance will find quite satisfying. Keep your eye on this author. With her ability to satisfy more than the twitterpated cravings of her audience by crafting substance beneath the froth, she has the potential to rise to the top of her genre.

Siren Tamer Book One of the Siren Tamer Series Volume 1 Sofia St Angeles McKenna Gardner Fiona Jayde Books Reviews
I was immediately drawn in to the story and the fantasy. The descriptions of color, sound, and sight immersed me to the point I didn't want to leave. It was hard to put this book down, and adjust to my own reality. Too bad we can't move there and be a part of that story.
St. Angeles' debut novel emerges onto the YA romance scene with a bang. The emotion is raw and evocative, the voice is fresh, the style is fresh and contemporary, unmistakably her own. Certain to leave readers champing at the bit for the next installment.
This book captivated me from the moment I started it! I couldn't put it down and I had so much I needed to do. It was so interesting and left me wanting more! I finished it a few days ago and it has remained on my mind. Please hurry and continue writing the sequels! I NEED to know what happens!!!
This was a book full of authenticity and intrigue. It's an extraordinary read! Love the back and forth views of the male and female. Cannot wait for the book form, I want this one on my shelf. I'm looking forward to the next volume, keep them coming Sofia.
Another awesome "unknown author" find! I was pulled into the story right away and loved everything about it! Another reviewer mentioned the great detail - sometimes when authors put too much detail in, I tend to just skim over and get to the next part... but not here! Loved the character development, the world she creates, and the magnetic pull between the main characters. Can't WAIT to read more of this story!
While definitely a Young Adult work, I enjoyed the characters interaction with each other. It was a bit slow to start, but the pace was racing by the time we reached the end. In fact, I was left bereft by the sudden end of the book and now wait impatiently for the next.
Ok, I have to admit that I am not a Young Adult fan. Nor can I believe that this is the debut novel of Ms. St. Angeles. It can't possibly be. Her world building and scenery descriptions are magical! They transport the reader right into the middle of the scene, you can smell the soil and flowers, one can see the palace, feel yourself walking along it's corridors, and it sucks you in so that the reader even misses their favorite tv show. The reader will also be a bit irritated at the female lead, she is a princess and a bit manipulative. One might even want to smack her, but that relates back to what an amazing author Ms. St. Angeles is.
Give this new author a try, you won't be disappointed!!!
